Watching Football

Hey, I was just curious about something that has been bothering me since December. So a little backstory, I have had an on-off interest to football for a while, and I had become interested in football once again in time for Euro 2020. Up until November-December of 2021 I was following football non-stop and became very interested by it. But then, suddenly when I would sit down to watch a match, when a team is about to score/when they are near the goal, I would feel an umdescribable feeling as if my mind was "distracting" me, if you will, from the action. It is very hard to describe and I have researched it, but found nothing. And I thought the feeling would die off, but we are in June now and I still find myself struggling with it. I have tried things like "not thinking" of it during the game, or focusing myself in order to think of other things instead of that feeling. I was just wondering if anyone else has felt that after being "obsessed" with football for 6 months, or am I just batshit crazy.

Well... I do remember you where quite active here during some weeks and then suddendly went off... it's not rare though.

Usually people tend to become obsessed when they find something very interesting... but it's impossible to keep that obsession, because you tend to be into it so much that you "worn" your obesssion fast... at least that's what I came to the conclusion about myself, because sometimes I do get obsessed about something and then later I realize I'm not into it that much.

Anyway, what you should do is just not to force yourself for seeing or liking something you are not feeling it...Maybe you just like those big competitions and so stick by it... Maybe you just got caught up on the moment and not even a World Cup will light the fire again... what matters is: don't pressure yourself into enjoying something you're not up to. There's so much to enjoy in the world that one thing I can guarantee is that you won't get tired of trying new stuff.

Thanks for your reply and understanding mate, this was a very unprecedented situation to me and I feel like people could not very clearly undertand me. Meanwhile I will try to do everything I can to get rid of this, as this feeling honestly ruined the experience of watching football

Many people tend to lose focus easily... it's a known condition I can't recall the scientific name... on the bright side, it's a good multitasking ability if you complete all the tasks.

So your on/off situation during matches is not unusual, trust me... even yesterday I was watching Portugal match, got bored sometimes and started seeing other stuff on my phone... also, it's rare for me to be able to watch entire matches that are not related to the club I support... I do pay more attention to bigger competitions and can certainly watch even a Qatar vs Ecuador... maybe because of the hype? Who knows.

Even if you realize your football experience is ruined, just try new stuff... don't be sad about it, football itself is something we can live without... family and friends is not, plus being able to enjoy all the moments in your life is what matters, be skydiving or watching a movie... so pay attention to what makes you happy now or what can make you happy later, instead of feeling down for not liking something you loved in the past... basically: MOVE ON! :D
