Panini - USA 94 (05) - Germany version - 328 stickers

The album cover is completely different.
Photo Cover: U.S. Cup game from 1993, Thomas Helmer, Germany: 2-England: 1
1564505411926.png
1564505746571.png1564505851651.png

This is the Sticker Packet version with the small white lines on the back. Usually, you only get the packets with the green lines on the back (Left).
Only the packets with the white lines contain the stickers with the brown backs.

Hey guys.

does anybody know the story related to the rare koreans/nigerians from the german version. The ones that can only be found in brown backs?

what happend in 94? Did they issue at a later date like with the irish in 2002?

how were they distributed? Sheets in news stands? Or different?

maybe our german collectors can clear this mess up?:)

I'm not german, but I have a good hunch... for me, it's the usual print in batches of X stickers per sheet and the number of normal stickers doesn't match the amount of stickers in sheets.

In smaller stickers like these, Panini usually prints 200 per sheet. Same 200, printed over and over, never changing. However, you see german version has 300 and so (not sure if those stickers with letters were also included in packets). So it was one sheet with 200 different stickers, but the other sheet had the remaining 100 and so... Panini always fills the sheet, so they added duplicates of those 100-so, hence creating easier and rarer stickers.

Then there's also the amount of copies printed per sheet. I would say that sheet with just 100-so different was printed less, due to duplicates. That also justifies why the rare stickers. because if you have a sheet printed less and some stickers are featured just once, you have rare stickers... the other stickers are featured twice, so even if sheet is printed less, they still come out a lot (like stickers from Spain, Italy, Cameroon, Bulgaria and some bolivians and belgians).

I understand what you are saying and i do agree and think that for this series its a valid explanation for the Spain, Italy, Cameroon, Bulgaria vs the rest of the teams.

The german usa 94 series was issued in purple/ brown back. However, 9 koreans and 4 nigerians can only be found in brown back (ultra rare compared to other stickers).

Aparently, these 13 stickers were never issued in purple back ... and they basically created a weird imbalance in this series...

Makes no sense .. but much of the album/version mayhem concerning 1994 doesn't make sence. Its like every local dealer was allowed to print whatever he liked ... and holland didn't get their team in the panini album version (sure just some letter stickers).

If those 13 stickers were only issued in purple back, then it basically destroys my theory... or maybe not, clear some of my doubts, if you can:

- All stickers except those 13 were issued with both purple and brown backs just in german edition?

- Or was it like Spain sticker had brown back and a Brazil sticker had purple back?

- Those 17 letter stickers were also issued inside normal packs? Or given as some extra in cereals or such?

Exactly. All stickers were issued in purple and brown back except those 13 that were issued solely in brown backs.

Basically if someone says he has a brown set of USA 94 German edition - its 328 stickers + 17 letters in brown
While for a purple set you could gather just 315 stickers + 17 letters in purple

Furthermore, the 2 versions of german sticker packets (white border and green border) are very far apart price wise.
It seems the white border has the potential to yield one of those 13 stickers.

Of course this is all speculation until a german collector that actually bought sticker packets back then can confirm?:)
Otherwise ... just stories gathered over time from collectors;).

So based on what you wrote, purple set might have come first without those 13 stickers and then Panini released a second batch, now with brown backs and the 13 stickers? Packet price difference does back this theory, purple set inside green border packs and brown set inside white border packs.

In any case, my theory is not wrong then, if letter stickers were also included in packs and with the same backs as regular stickers (meaning they were printed in the same sheets). Panini also prints by material, so the foils were not printed in those sheets I mentioned earlier.

And in both sets, they are prone to have easier/rarer stickers... now we just need confirmation from someone who collected the set in 1994 :p

Have no clue if those green border can yield only purple backs ... but surely those 13 are not included.
Similarly have no clue if white border yields only brown backs ... but surely includes those 13.

Maybe it is color separated. But what the hell where they smoking back then?
Issuing a collection 332 stickers with purple and then to sort things out they update it by issuing a whole new collection with 345 brown back stickers?

Has anyone opened a german usa 94 sticker packet?

Well, actually @edison gave the answer in the post right before yours:

Only the packets with the white lines contain the stickers with the brown backs.
So packets with white lines do have the brown backs... My doubt now is if those packets still have purple backs too? Because if Panini had to reprint a sheet to add those 13 players, it doesn't mean they had to reprint the other sheet that was ok.

What a mess! If Panini did reprint a sheet just to add those 13 stickers, no wonder some stickers are easier too, if they had to be printed in two batches!

The weird thing is they switched colors between batches... So it's impossible to get a full purple set...

Looks very real to me.
What do you know about it?
Where has the image come from?
Do you know anything more about it than just this image?

I was browsing through the panini underworld while i stumpled upon an article about hong kong collectors & and some of their gatherings.

There was a photo of them holding a few albums ... and this one caught my eye.

I had hoped it is fake ... but it might just be real.

Cover version number? soon triple digits?:)
