Panini Prizm World Cup 2022

I don't think there is a thread on this subject but apologies if there is and I've missed it. I had a full knee replacement last week so I'm a bit drugged on painkillers. It used to be possible to collect a full basic set of Panini Prizm World Cup cards but this 2022 set will be near impossible. This box on eBay UK works out at over £45 per pack of 12 cards. I think there are 300 basic cards in a full set. There are at least two types of boxes. This Hobby box of 12 packs each containing 12 cards; plus a Blaster box of 6 packets each containing only 4 cards. A collection for the US "investors".

Yes the hobby box is being sold by Panini at 440$, which is actually much cheaper than an NBA Prizm Hobby Box, but still ridiculous for european collectors. That said just wait 6 months or so if you want a base set, normally the US does not care about base cards and at some hobby shops they even open some packs and leave the basis cards for whoever wants them for free.

If you wait 6 months you can probably get the base set for 150$ or less

How the times have changed.

I remember getting the base set for Prizm WC 2014 for $60 US(100 card set).

I even managed to get a full set of all base + all inserts for like $150 on ebay.

WC 2018 was not much more expensive for a base set. I paid it $150 but I think it was 300 cards(3 Levels) for Select.

Many sellers will have the base set for cheap after the WC as @Burkina2008 said.
Just be patient and you might well get a cheap price for it even if the base is up to 300 cards now.

Unless there's some rookie or legendary player there, plus his team winning the world cup, just like what happened with Mbappé in 2018.

Good old times are over.

Good point Carlos. One young gun having a good WC can ruin the whole idea of getting a cheap base set.
It might be your favourite one, Rafa Leão. :p :D

That's mad, truly mad. It's a parallel card to /22 not even to /10 or /5 or 1 of 1.
I can imagine how much my Messi(Barca) auto card from Topps finest is worth now. It's not numbered but still Messi auto.

Not True.
All the base card in series post 2020 are massively over-printed. Base card in these days are worth next to nothing. 50-60 USD would get you a WC 22Base set.

Where did you see those prices? Checked ebay quickly and no seller is selling below $150... for non US buyers, it's much worse due to expensive shipping and customs taxes.

Here’re some of the recent SOLD prices. Understand the issues about the Import taxes and other charges.

Also, I’ve just attached some of the top rookie base prices for 22 World Cup (Gakpo, Alvarez). Again, the base are worth very little even for top rookie due to the print volume. But a numbered card or a refractor would be a completely different story.

I saw sold prices too and can't say we can get "normally" a full base set for 50-60usd... but that chinese seller with lots of base sets (the other sellers were all selling way above that, mostly US sellers) and selling everyday makes it "normal" I guess.

Still, minimum shipping paid is almost 30 usd, so at least buyers had to pay at least 80 usd (if adding import taxes, it can reach around 100 usd). Better than I expected anyway, probably because Gakpo and Alvarez are not as good as Mbappé.... and definitely prefer people selling complete sets than wasting them to just sell 2 or 3 rookies.

For the sake of our hobby, let's hope none of the 2022 rookies get too big :p
