Panini Liga ESTE 2017-18 (LaLiga)

I am not big collector as some of you here but this that albums comes out this early is really stupid. Summer transfer period is not over yet and some of players will be transfered (like Neymar). Then they make lot of updates ("fichaje" stickers). So you can have about 30 stickers for one club. Now this is even worse becouse Neymar is on cover.

Good Evening All!

As La Liga has literally just kicked off this evening I've just opened the new Panini 2017/2018 starter pack in the recent Jugon! Edition:

IMG_5238.JPG

A generous 10 free packets were included providing 60 free stickers to get started.

The packets are labeled free and hold the same size stickers as the previous album:

Later this evening I will share pictures of the insides of the album and start opening some packets... Watch this space for more very soon!

The album is now opened! We all know about the front cover own goal and unless PSG loan back Neymar it looks like we're stuck with an out of date opening picture already!

IMG_5243.JPG

The first stickers needed are on page 3 and these are the picture of the album and all of the club shields (normally these stickers come out later in an edition of Jugon!)

I like the pictorial list of previous albums... but it would of been so good to have these as individual stickers instead of just printed:

IMG_5245.JPG

The rest of the album follows almost the same layout as last year's which is a shame:

Spaces for badges/managers of La Liga clubs:
IMG_5246.JPG

Each top flight team gets two pages for their players (16 player stickers per team):

The rest of the album consists of spaces for La Liga Stars (3 pages), Segunda Division (2 pages), Ultimas Fichajes/updates (a massive 8 pages for new signings), puzzle (1 page) and finally my all time least favorite sticker section in any album ever.... chicle/bubble gum stickers (thankfully just 2 pages)!

The bubble gum section is pictured below... just in case you don't know; these aren't normal Panini stickers but come from gum packets (mmm... best leaving these out of the album unless you like a sweet aroma!)
IMG_5256.JPG

The album is certainly nice quality and very different from most other Panini collections but as always there is room for improvement. If I'm going to be picky, the negatives for me are the following:

- too many adverts
- very similar to 16/17 edition
- launched too early

Coming soon to a forum near you... the grand opening of the first packet! Btw I've already opened the first few and will share findings/thoughts very soon!

The grand opening of the first few packets happened last night...

So far I see two different packets (free version and 70c version) as per below...
IMG_5240.JPG

So the first packet opened is the free version and 6 standard player stickers fell out with an online competition/prize draw/quiz card (I'm yet to fully work out what the supergolazo card does just yet...).
IMG_5241.JPG

The next packet to be opened was the 70c one from the box of 50... and what a start as two badges fell out (Real Madrid and Girona)...
IMG_5242.JPG

The stickers are excellent quality as always and have a luxurious feel to them. The horizontal design works well with the player in action as well as a portrait shot. Maybe the badges would be better vertical but that's just me being picky again!

So when I return home from Leicester's game later today I'll post some more thoughts and pictures... to be continued!

One thing that strikes me is that the background of the pages look good without stickers but not so nice when they're in place!

In my option there's too much background colour that detracts from the sticker...

Maybe it's just me wishing for the simpler 1980s designs to return!

The golden age...
Yeah the early 80s albums work a treat - neat pages with great stickers that stood out well.

Sadly the 90s wasn't a great era for designs. Having said that I do like a lot of the new albums as long as the pages don't get too busy!

So I had a funny moment last night... thankfully not a funny turn but I was looking at the list of past albums on page 2 and spotted something new to me...

IMG_5245.JPG

I bought an empty Panini Futbol 83 last year and the cover is completely different from the ones on the list!

Are there any La Liga Panini experts that know more about this?

I'm guessing that there were two competing sticker albums in the 80s and they've now merged?

I will share a photo later of the 83 album (it's a good one...not the photo, but the album!)

During the 80s, there were both Panini and ESTE albums

For Panini, you find those years
-1976 and 1977 (by Vulcano)
-1982,1983, 1984
-1985, but it's Football and Basketball together
-1987, 1988, 1989, 1990
-1993: a ridiculous album, it's a little like "Supercalcio"
-1994 to 2001
-For 2002, 2003 and 2004, there are "Panini Superliga" albums; they ar beautiful, but unofficial, because ESTE had the licence.

In 2005 only ESTE published an album; after, since 2006, it's a partnership between ESTE and Panini.
On the picture there are the covers from ESTE, which is editing albums since the beginning of the 70s; there are many other editors, like Fher, Ruiz Romero or other for the 70s and even the 80s. Panini was just an editor like others, ESTE was the leader in Spain.

I add 2 photos from my collection; the 1st Panini/Vulcano 76, and the first "real" Panini 82 (empty album + complete set); I need the 2002, if someone has it ^^

I got my album and packets yesterday. I've always loved the sticker design of Panini/ESTE La Liga stickers.
Regarding the blunder with the cover, well, they could have also put James instead of Isco :D:p

Hi @CSKA Sofia Forever and anyone else still collecting this!

I cheated and bought the complete set of 3rd edition stickers direct from a seller instead of buying more boxes.

It's a great collection with super high quality stickers, but in my opinion they could and should make it easier to collect without too many different editions.

There are 32 new stickers in total that came out in the 3rd edition including the following ex-Premier League players:

And I like that a player is called Champagne - great name!

I hear that the 4th edition stickers are available soon.
