I dont know how many of you guys outside the UK will know about this (maybe all of you?) but i thought it would be great to share this story with you as it has a (slightly) happy ending...
During the Play-Offs held at the national stadium (Wembley) during the League One contest between Preston & Swindon, the match was effectively over with Preston leading 4-0 when they substituted their hero of the day, Jermaine Beckford after he scored a hat-trick. While on the bench he saw some kids begging him for his shirt so he kindly chucked it over to them and a scuffle ensued. After 30 seconds or so it looked like a little 8 year old supporter had got his dream and managed to get the shirt...however a woman was also hanging on to it.
As the tugging continued a skank with a grey tracksuit came over and ripped the little kids hands off the shirt allowing the women to carry it back to her seat and keep it.
Later that evening the shirt was placed on gumtree (similar to ebay) for sale for £1500...real supporter, I dont think so...
Anyway, Beckford heard of this incident and presented the youngster with a signed shirt (not as good of course but very nice gesture)...
Such a shame i didnt attend this game, it was a day early for me!! I was at the richest club game in world football (£120m+ to winner estimated) the Championship Play Off Final a day later where Norwich City easily overcame a poor Middlesbrough side by 2-0 at the same arena.
