2026 Premier League stickers

Haha you must be joking. Topps don't give out advance information or hype, they just drop things when they can be bothered.

We won't hear much about this until the UCL set is released I would imagine

I bet they are frighteningly expensive - £2 a packet maybe, at least £1.50

Panini did a decent job of the PL stickers for the last few years.

I'll pass on these.

The only real reason I will collect these is out of FOMO and the fact that I have collected all the Premier League sticker collections from 2010 onwards so it would be tough to miss out on one.

I agree with a lot of your sentiments about the way collecting is going but that seems awfully negative. We've been given 1 news release with a couple of photos only, we don't know what the quality or price is going to be.

The packets have 6 stickers instead of 5 from Panini so they are going to be more expensive yes. Add the Topps tax and they will probably be £1.50 which is what I think the UCL might come in at for the UK market. Give it 6 weeks after release and you'll likely be able to get boxes on eBay that work out around £1 a packet.

I don't see anything wrong with the design. There are only a few pictures but they look standard enough. The quality is likely to be high for their first release back with the license. It's the collection in 2-3 seasons time that will be shockingly poor, this one like the "premium" cards will look and feel very nice.

Parallels again, I think we all know my feelings on those in sticker collections. Waste of time and money for me but some people seem to love them.

The set looks better than I thought it would be. I was terrified it would go the Euro 2024 route!

These days I often wait a while and then start getting bundles from ebay, much cheaper.

I think there will be a lot of parallels - that alone puts me off.

I think, it's only a first news about this set.
Comparing with UCL "silence mode" even this news is a huge step ahead.
Plus, it's still ~1,5 months to wait. So it's just a right time to start heat up audience.
No need to give all main information at once, better to keep it for future.
All those "secrets" produce some "buzzz" about this collection.
It's all basic commercial rules, that Topps is follow.

There has been no promotion whatsoever about the CL - they were supposed to be out this week

Or it could be next week.........

Or the week after...........

Rather than creating a buzz.....this gives the impression that the company really isn't that bothered and you shouldn't be either.

By contrast he EFL release today has created a real stir.

Yes I know that is exactly what my point is. We only have 1 article so far, it is too early for anyone to make judgements on the collection with the information we have now (except parallels)

Although we already have 1 more article promoting this than we did for UCL so it shows you where the priorities lie. That's another reason we shouldn't make snap judgements about this set, I think it will turn out to be a very good collection.

Launching in January, confirmed to be 560 stickers in total. Breakdowns of inserts here:

This section is of particular interest:

"KICK OFF Sticker-Cards: Where Stickers Meet Cards

The crossover between stickers and trading cards continues through the KICK OFF sticker-card subset, found exclusively in Starter Packs. Each features a holographic Premier League Lion sticker applied to a premium card featuring one of the league’s newest signings. The twenty subjects include multiple parallel tiers, numbered from /150 down to 1/1."

With only 20 of them and being guaranteed to be in starter packs they should be available easily enough on eBay etc. The parallels can do one but maybe you'll get lucky and can make some money selling one. Not sure how I feel about cards in a sticker collection on principle, but a card set of only 20 would be fine so bundling it in with stickers I would be collecting seems tolerable, if not preferable.

Also of note:

"Collectors who complete their album will be able to earn exclusive prizes through a completion activation in partnership with Smyths Toys taking place later in the season. Prizes for verified completion include a mirror-foil completion sticker, a limited Finishers card pack with numbered autograph cards to find, and the chance to win Premier League matchday tickets."

I wonder how that will work, and it sucks for anyone outside the UK & Ireland, but again a chance to sell anything unwanted on I suppose.

I don't see much wrong with this collection beyond the introduction of (in my opinion) useless parallels. But the paper quality is going to be the big thing, hopefully they put a bit of care into this one!

How about the fact that we're 6 months into the season.

Is producing stuff that can be flogged on ebay really such a great thing ?.

I wasn't planning on collecting these anyway so......just observations.

Some of the stickers in the main set are going to take some finding.

Parallels, completion stickers, just another part of the Topps quest to make increasingly expensive and impossible to collect sets.

I know you don't like Topps but I don't think some of that is fair.

Panini collections were released late November or early December if I recall correctly. I don't remember people complaining about them being several months into the season, people were happier with the squad lists. Topps aren't exactly going to release this at the exact same time as their other UCL set and compete with themselves, and if they bring it out earlier then we know they will be crucified (correctly) for incorrect squads. It seems they can't win sometimes, it's their problem for buying all the licenses. The only thing that they do wrong that could explain differently to above why this is released later than Panini is their poor print time compared to Panini.

Some of the stickers in all main sets take some finding. There are base cards and normal stickers that are produced in much less quantity than others in every set ever released. Sometimes you get 5 of the same player and cannot find the totally normal one of another. I know you mean the shiny ones more but we don't know about ratios yet.

Completion stickers are not new. Merlin Premier League 2002 had large completion stickers that you had to go to their swap shop event to find. There was even a place on the inside of the back cover for them, so it was technically part of the collection. I managed to order some from them directly back in the day because of that mistake they made. Panini had a "commemorative stamp" in 2006 with a different back to it. There have been extra sets found in crisp packets and Frubes yogurts before for Merlin/Topps. Panini has Coca Cola stickers or the Morrisons tournament trackers in 2010, the McDonalds stickers too. Panini had pre-printed pages in the album for transfer updates so you had to buy them later in the season. Merlin Premier League 2001 had the ultrafoil stickers in normal packets. If you want extras great, if you don't sell them. This is nothing new with any collection. If we want a pure collection like in the 70's/80's/90's we may as well all give up collecting completely because neither Topps nor Panini are going to give it to you. We've just had the Birmingham 150th sticker for the EFL for example. I've had to accept this (although I will never accept parallels and agree with you 100% on that)

Topps do plenty of things wrong that they can be criticised for. I don't like them as much as Panini for what they are doing to cards in particular so lets criticise them for the things they are absolutely doing terrible at such as a dismal missing service, poor paper quality etc. We'll have lots of opportunity to slate them because they absolutely will do things wrong but I don't know about some of that criticism when Panini do the same thing and seem to get a pass (even by me sometimes)

Yes - you're right of course.

Topps are a cynical lot these days - but then again - so am I.

Actually I never really collected the PL stickers - I missed the last 4 editions and then when I heard Topps had regained the contract I bought all the missing sets on the interweb (two of them were really cheap).

I'm not really that into the PL. I watch EFL games and I'm quite happy with that. I'm nominally a Chelsea fan as well - but I probably couldn't name more than half their team these days.

Now that Panini are going to make regular EFL collections, there is even less reason for me to collect PL sets.

One thing I will say about this new PL sticker collection is that it is looks to be a bit less expensive than I thought it might be.

Maybe I'll buy a set in a few years eh.......

Why anyone want to have in 2020's "pure collection" like in 70's?
I mean, I understand that there is fans of 70's musclecars. But nowadays demand to issue cars with parameters from 70's (manual gear, analogue board, poor climate control, huge fuel consumption, etc) is stupid.
There could be fans of this, of course. But it's like to issue some new album of famous band only on vinyl.
For me what was in 70's/80's/90's should stay in that era.

Did you use AI assist when you wrote that.
Unfortunately, AI could write it with a less grammar mistakes, that I did.)))

But anyway for me is better to ask publeshers for re-issue WC-78 collection on new technical basis (better paper and sticker quality, some improvements in album, etc), intead of asking to issue some new collection with poor album and sticker design without any extra sub-sets and parallels, as it was in 70's.
It's like asking to shoot some new episode of Star Wars without modern CG, and with visual effects as they was made in 80's.
